TEXAS EDUCATION AGENCY Program Specialist VI (Writing Pilot Manager) in AUSTIN, Texas

This position is budgeted through August 31, 2019. Pursuant to the Texas Education Code (TEC) Chapter 22, sub-chapter C, applicants who are strongly being considered for employment must submit to a national criminal history background check. This term position will serve as the writing pilot program coordinator in the Student Assessment Division of the Texas Education Agency. The coordinator oversees a wide variety of activities related to the development and implementation of the writing pilot program as mandated by HB 1164, 84th Texas Legislature, 2015. The coordinator's responsibilities include devising alternative methodologies of assessing writing aptitudes in students in grades 4 and 7, and the English I and II end-of-course assessments, and implementing those methods through a pilot program for select districts in the form of a comprehensive study. Responsible for the findings of the pilot program through a series of formal reports to the Texas Legislature. Responsible for providing consultative services and technical assistance to program staff, governmental agencies, community organizations, or the general public as related to writing pilot. The writing pilot coordinator works under minimal supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
