Siemens Intelligent Traffic Solutions is seeking to hire a Senior Traffic Engineer to support our business located in Austin, TX. This role will report directly to the head of Bid and Project Management for Traffic Solutions. The Senior Traffic / Transportation Engineer works closely with Siemens ITS’ vast customer base, distributors, sales engineers, bid managers, project managers, systems engineers and field technicians. The goal of this position is to provide high quality consultation, planning, and execution of ITS-related Traffic Engineering work that exceeds project requirements, and is in compliance with relevant code and other established procedures and guidelines
Role and Responsibilities
The Senior Traffic / Transportation Engineer conducts traffic engineering studies, generates traffic signal timings, develops engineered solutions, and addresses roadway safety & operational challenges that affect motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists. The Engineer will serve as a subject matter expert on teams that include project managers, systems engineers, technicians and field technicians.
Other duties include project work, field data review, and development of realistic & innovative cost-effective solutions. The Engineer reports on recommended solutions and cost options as well as provides plan reviews for traffic engineering components of proposed ITS infrastructure and maintenance plans. The Engineer evaluates land development plans for improving traffic throughput and overall system safety. The Engineer supports ITS sales activities as well as the execution of ITS projects and prepares responses to traffic engineering & operational issues that arise during project planning, execution and service activities.
Specific tasks include but are not limited to:
∂ Provide ITS related consulting services
∂ Traffic planning and Traffic Engineering consulting activities
∂ Active deployment of ITS solutions including controller and central software, adaptive control solutions and connected vehicle (V2I) applications
∂ Troubleshooting of ITS devices such traffic controllers, road side units, cameras, and management systems
∂ Professional and effective communication with management, peers, customers, customer representatives, and contractors, etc.
∂ Support software deployment and integration tasks
∂ Assist in the resolution of support tickets relating to traffic management hardware and software issues.
∂ Ensuring proper filing/storage of engineering documentation- i.e. drawings, version history, scope documents, RFI's.
-B.S. in Civil/Traffic/Transportation Engineering with a solid background in principles and practices of Traffic Engineering. M.S. preferred.
-5-10 years of experience in Traffic/Transportation Engineering
-P.E. license in any of the 50 states of the U.S.
-Amount of travel: up to 50% within U.S.
-Relocation to Austin, TX
-Strong communication and interpersonal skills
-Proficiency in Sychro/SimTraffic, VISSIM, AutoCAD, and other traffic related software.
Profound understanding of ITS products and solutions, including but not limited to:
∂ Cabinets and intersection controllers
∂ Detectors, signals, traffic planning tools, and signs
∂ Adaptive Traffic Control Systems and Connected Vehicle applications
∂ Traffic Management and Advanced Traffic Management Software Applications
∂ ITS communication infrastructure
Knowledge of and experience in applying civil and traffic engineering principles and practices to urban environments and highway design, traffic safety and operations. Experience in developing and applying engineering solutions to complex traffic issues. Demonstrated knowledge of federal rules and regulations, including MUTCD, AASHTO, and ITE practices. Demonstrated use of various traffic engineering software used to conduct traffic studies, safety analysis and develop recommendations. Ability to read and interpret roadway construction/maintenance plans. Experience in writing and presenting technical engineering reports/solutions to diverse audience/stakeholders. Experience in effectively working in teams. Ability to work under minimum supervision or direction on multiple projects, with varying delivery dates, and for multiple stakeholders.
