Position Summary Information
Job Summary/Basic Function
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Performs a wide variety of duties in the Information Center including the entry of data, organization of data into reports for advisor/Chair School of Nursing, and maintenance of advising folders. Serves as a key communication link between the School of Nursing, faculty, students and general public. Has some latitude for decision-making in carrying out routine phases of the work, giving information, maintaining records and files and preparing routine reports. Assists Advisor of Dishman School of Nursing to provide advising and information of present and future students.
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED (E=ESSENTIAL): E 1. Utilizes a computer (PC) using WordPerfect or MS Word email systems. E 2. Greets visitors and students and insures phone calls are answered promptly and directed appropriately. E 3. Assists with preparation and maintenance of academic files for applicants and students in the BSN program E 4. Collects and accurately processes liability insurance and nursing application fees. E 5. Serves as communication link for all current and potential students in nursing programs. E 6. Performs data entry and data processing using Microsoft Access software. E 7. Performs routine clerical duties such as writing memos and letters, filling, running errands, and making deposits. E 7. Organizes data concerning students into reports pertaining to advisement E 8. Maintains advising folders for students in Advising Center E 9. Performs related duties as required.
GENERAL QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Experience: Should have 2 years related experience. Experience in Microsoft Office preferred. Experience with Microsoft Access is required.
Education: Minimum Associate Degree or 4 years’ secretarial/administrative experience required. Prefer business course training or college level work in office administration.
Knowledge, Skill and Abilities: 1. Competent in working with personal computer in general and specifically with Microsoft Office. 2. Competent in use of Microsoft Access. 3. Effective organizational skills to manage projects, academic files and general office procedures. 4. Working knowledge of photocopiers, fax machines, telephone system and other office machines. 5. Ability to prepare effective correspondence on routine matters. 6. Ability to understand and follow moderately complex oral and written instructions. 7. Ability to deal with students, prospective students and general public effectively and tactfully. 8. Ability to type various forms. Must be able to type 55 wpm. 9. Ability to work cooperatively with fellow employees and supervisors. 10. Ability to come to work in a timely and predictable manner. 11. Ability to work with positive and negative feedback. 12. Ability to tolerate stressful conditions. 13. Ability to follow university policy and procedures.
