TEXAS JUVENILE JUSTICE DEPT Case Manager for Secure Institution AOD Treatment in EDINBURG, Texas

JOB SUMMARY: Career Path Promotion Opportunity: This position has been established as a TJJD career path position. An applicant that does not meet the experience criteria for a case manager IV and is hired as a case manager II or III may promote within the job series without competing for a vacant position upon: (1) meeting the licensure and/or experience requirements for a higher level in the career path; and (2) meeting the established performance criteria per agency policy (PRS.15.07). General Description of Work Performed: TJJD provides dorm-based residential treatment to youth committed to TJJD and assigned to a state-operated high-security juvenile correctional facility. This position is assigned to a dorm housing youth who are provided supplemental specialized treatment for alcohol and other drugs (AOD) in addition to the general treatment program. The position provides case management services relating to the general treatment and the AOD specialized treatment programs. The position works in close partnership with a variety of service providers and treatment program staff to ensure availability of all treatment and program services and promote the multidisciplinary team approach. Work involves completing case file reviews, case planning, AOD education/curriculum delivery, individual and group counseling, encouraging family involvement, performing discharge planning, and working with service providers to ensure coordination of service delivery and enhance the continuity of care for youth transitioning from the agency s AOD program. May be required to work overtime and required to be on-call. Levels of Work Performed: Case Manager II: Performs moderately complex (journey-level) case management work under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Case Manager III: Performs highly complex (senior-level) case management work under limited supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Case Manager IV: Performs advanced and/or supervisory (senior-level) case management work under minimal supervision with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. May plan, assign, and/or supervise the work others. REQUIREMENTS: Description of Required and Preferred Experience: Required years of experience for each level are described below and differ based on degree and/or licensure held. Unless stated otherwise, required experience may be any combination of full-time wage-earning experience that: (1) involves working with juveniles in a juvenile residential setting, treatment, or correctional program; or (2) relates to primary service responsibilities including assessments, development and implementation of individual case plans, development and coordination of services, and placement recommendations, referrals of youth, and/or individual counseling. Experience requirements may be satisfied by the prorated part-time equivalent, and verifiable documented volunteer experience providing chemical dependency treatment services may substitute for wage-earning experience. Experience providing chemical dependency treatment services to adolescents is preferred.
