Position: Materials Lead Shipper

Supervisor: Director of Logistics/Logistics Manager

Purpose of Position

Under direct supervision of the Director of Logistics/Logistics Manager, performs manual and administrative tasks required to effect proper shipment of completed Sales Orders and other shipments as required. Coordinates and completes all Export shipment documentation in accordance with all applicable agency rules and regulations. Monitors Government compliance communications and assists Director of Logistics in developing appropriate company policy and practices to remain current with requirements at all times.**

Key Responsibilities

  • Receives outbound shipments from Manufacturing, Stockroom or other departments and ships manufactured products
  • Verifies that all required QC functions have been completed
  • Verifies count and identity of outgoing items in accordance with sales order or other shipping documents
  • Wraps and packages in accordance with specific CO/JO instructions and/or best shipping practices
  • Determines method and mode of shipment to customer’s requirement
  • Coordinates with carriers to arrange for pick up; loads material onto trucks
  • Troubleshoots lost or delayed shipment and problem freight invoices
  • Receives and processes all defective products returned for replacement or credit
  • Completes export shipping documentation (e.g. Certificate of Origin, Bill of Lading, Commercial Invoice, Export Declarations, Destination Control Statement) accurately and completely
  • Maintains shipping logs and reports
  • Maintains current understanding of Harmonized System Numbers and Export Control Classification Numbers in compliance with applicable regulations
  • Maintains an effective inventory of shipping and packing supplies
  • Retains or verifies serial numbers on outgoing items where required
  • Updates and communicates on production schedules as necessary
  • Coordinates with Accounting department on release/hold of product where customer funds are at issue
  • Serves as Materials department focal point for Export related record retention requirements
  • Releases invoices and related documentation on all shipments
  • Maintains a familiarity with local carriers, freight forwarders, and global logistics providers
  • Assists in Receiving and in Stockroom as necessary
  • Guides the work of others when assistance is required in Shipping
  • Other duties as required

Job Requirements

Desired Background and Skill Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Specific training in Export – Import regulations and supporting documentation
  • Three to five years’ experience in a warehousing or shipping / receiving environment
  • Two year of experience in Export shipping and related regulations and documentation requirements
  • Must be computer literate and have experience with the following: UPS World Ship, FEDX Ship Manager, Bill of Lading generation, processing RMAs, overseas documentation and procedures, processing damaged goods claims. Direct experience with major carrier on-line systems is required.
  • Some Lean Manufacturing experience is a plus
  • Export Documentation experience (to include NAFTA, DOC, DOS, AES) is required
  • Experience in screening outbound shipments for denied parties is preferred
  • Experience with SyteLine ERP systems is a plus
  • DOT Hazardous Shipper and IATA current certifications are a plus
  • Basic math skills
  • Understands and actively supports the value of teamwork
  • Demonstrates great interpersonal and communication skills, and maintains a positive and professional attitude
  • Demonstrates ability to work against deadlines in supporting company goals
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to operate under change and transitioning demands
  • Physical ability to push, pull and lift up to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to work effectively in a team environment
