Required Qualifications● Bachelor’s degree.● Professional experience in an art gallery or museum.● Experience with fine art handling, storage, and shipping methods and procedures.● Experience with fine art installation methods, including exhibition lighting techniques.● Experience with woodworking and painting.● Experience with video and audio systems, including projector installation.● Knowledge of standard office procedures and equipment, including familiarity with Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite.● Ability to work on a flexible schedule, including in the evenings and on weekends.

Job Description

Responsible for organizing all operational, supervisory, marketing and financial aspects of exhibitions at the Texas State University — Department of Art and Design Galleries.

Job Duties

Primary duties include preparing the galleries and art objects for exhibition display. The Associate Director will be responsible for coordinating with artists working in a range of media to resolve installation concerns in a courteous and timely manner. They will be responsible for the handling and preparing of art objects for storage and for transport. These duties include but are not limited to: designing and constructing shipping crates, coordinating the logistics of delivery and/or shipping, assisting the Director with the creation of loan agreements and condition reports. Inventorying and cataloging of the permanent collection may also be among the Associate Director’s duties. The Associate Director will be responsible for training and supervising student gallery workers, as well as for supervising senior thesis students in the design and execution of thesis exhibitions. In collaboration with the Director, the Associate Director will develop exhibitions, and may have the opportunity to independently curate select exhibitions. The selected candidate will assist the Director with the creation of exhibition text, and will be responsible for producing and/or installing these interpretive materials. The Associate Director will work with the Director to plan and to manage opening receptions and special events. They will work with the Director to increase the Galleries’ visibility generally. These duties will include but are not limited to: assisting the Director with the creation of promotional content for exhibitions and related programing, distributing this content, and managing the Galleries’ website and presence on social media.
