JOB OBJECTIVE: Perform highly complex informational and educational work for the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) Communication s division. Serve as the Publication Specialist ensuring the timely distribution of agency publication projects while maintaining a high level of quality and innovation. Coordinate the graphic design and distribution of publications and assist with social media and agency online content. Work under limited supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgement. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: 1. Design, develop and produce graphic design projects using applicable computer software. 2. Prepare and edit agency publications, reports and informational releases. 3. Manage the public distribution of publications, reports and other agency content. 4. Work closely with management to determine material to be developed for publication. 5. Author written content for agency publications and ensure its compelling and professional. 6. Review, edit and rewrite content to improve readability. 7. Proofread and correct errors in spelling, punctuation and syntax in written materials. 8. Maintain electronic mailing lists for distribution of publications. 9. Assist with managing, designing and creating online content to fulfill the agency s mission and disseminate critical information to the public. 10. Oversee maintenance of program mobile applications, as needed. 11. Adhere to established work schedule with regular attendance. 12. Follow all TDA safety guidelines/procedures and ethics requirements. NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES: 13. Perform other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS (The application must specifically state how each of the following qualifications are met): Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in communications, graphic design, visual arts or related field (one year of work experience related to the essential duties may substitute for one year of college); Minimum three years work experience with graphic design, visual arts or illustration; Work experience with social media and/or website maintenance; Valid Texas driver s license and an acceptable driving record; and Ability to travel up to 5% of the work period. PREFER: Work experience with writing or editorial work for public distribution; Work experience utilizing graphic design software (Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign etc.); and Work experience organizing and tracking projects.
