Proposed Minimum Salary
Forester will serve as forest survey crew leader and be responsible for the survey program in the assigned region. The forester will investigate land ownership in the tax office, contact landowners, locate field plots, collect and transmit forestry survey data and meet production goals.
Responsibilities:-Investigate and determine property ownerships from public records. May require extended personal, telephone or electronic communication.
-Request and receive permission from landowners to enter property. May require extended personal, telephone or electronic communication.
-Locate and plot data. May require working long hours, with minimal rest in severe conditions. May require walking long distances, standing for extended periods, twisting, bending, reaching and kneeling, May require lifting and carrying heavy objects, May require driving motor vehicles for long distances. May require exposure to harsh environmental conditions such as wind, sunlight, rain & temperature extremes.
-Organize, edit and transmit plot data. May require extended electronic communication.
-Manage an account for a TFS credit card in accordance with applicable laws, rules, procedures and guidelines.
-If supervisor approves, assist with local fire suppression. Maintain FFT2 NWCG Certification.
-Forester is encouraged to be involved with local community and professional activities not specifically related to the Texas A&M Forest Service.
-Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:Required Education: Bachelors degree in Forestry.
Preferred Education: Masters degree in Forestry.Required Experience: None
Preferred Experience: Experience in field of Natural Resources, Production, or working as part of a team.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Preferred knowledge: Cooperation with federal agencies to lead and motivate large staff.Required Ability: Communicate clearly. Multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
Preferred Ability: Lead and motivate large staff.
Preferred Skills: GPS training, dendrology expertise
Registrations, Certifications, and Licenses:Valid Texas Drivers license or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of employment.
Preferred: USFS Certified Forester.
Other Requirements:Must be able to work overtime w/some overnight travel; in the field for extended periods of time.
